While it is most often seen in adolescents, acne is not related to sexual life and it doesn’t disappear once it begins. Indeed, during adolescence, the body secrets several sex hormones and this stimulates the production of sebum. But acne is sometimes encountered at children, and certain forms of the disease affects equally the adults.
2. Acne is the result of poor hygiene of the skin.
Comedones formation is not related to hygiene, but is the result of accumulation of large amounts of sebum within the follicle. An excessive hygiene may even aggravate the problem: too frequent washing, using of soaps that dry your face, disinfectant lotions, all of this activates a more secretion of sebum. Practice a balanced hygiene and use emollient soaps.
3. Acne is closely linked to diet.
The opinions are divided. Many experts do not consider that acne and nutrition are directly related. The appearance of pimples have other causes: high secretion of sebum, followed by the closure of the hair follicles, their inflammation and their infection with a bacterium, Propionibacterium acnes. So you can eat chocolate, cold cuts, cheese and whatever you like, within reasonable limits, of course. However, recent studies show that a high consumption of products containing refined grains (white rice, white bread, biscuits, cakes, etc) can encourage the development of lesions. Until experts decide, better choose the middle:don’t miss the culinary delights, but still try to eat more natural.
4. Acne is contagious.
Nothing more fake. Although the pimples contain a bacterium, it develops within hair follicles, away from air. Acne it’s not a contagious disease.
5. We can not us make-up products if we have acne.
There are makeup products for skin with problems and they can be usually found in pharmacies. If you feel necessarily to hide your acne under a layer of foundation, as most women who suffer from this disease do,invest in a particular foundation, take care how you clean your face, and use moisturizers only on clean skin. Try not sunken pores with make-up.
6.The sun heals acne.
In this case, the sun is a double-edged weapon. It helps dry lesions and bronze make them less visible, but pimples come back after sun exposure. Many medicines for treating acne even prohibit this, so it is best to use a sunscreen, if necessary.
7. Contraceptives cause acne.
I hope no one believes in this myth. Many even have the effect of improving the issue, but never take pills without doctor's recommendation.
8. Squeezing pimples helps their heal.
Not really. Rather, it is a good way to push bacteria deeper, and not to say that can cause surface infection. No matter how hard it should be, you should refrain from squeezing, because you can cause permanent scars.
9. Acne disappears by itself.
Sometimes yes, sometimes not. In some cases it may take years and it may even become worse. And anyway, why suffer of inferiority complexes, when there are so many treatment options?
10. Stress is a cause of acne.
Stress may aggravate acne by inducing hormonal changes, but it’s not a direct cause of this problem. But some drugs to relieve stress can cause spots.Find out about their adverse effects before taking them.
